It's National Pet Day Cathedral School! But let's It's National Pet Day Cathedral School! But let's admit it: people take having a pet a little too far sometimes. In some cases, folks even treat their pet dog or cat better than human beings. This is a no-no: Scripture is clear that humans are created with a special dignity that sets them apart from all other animals. Man alone is made in God's image (Genesis 1:26). ⁣
 ⁣
However, the Bible also provides a solid basis for responsible pet ownership. The prophet Nathan uses the image of a poor man who cared for a beloved lamb that would "lie in his bosom" (2 Samuel 12:3). Proverbs says that a mark of the righteous is "knowing the needs of their animals" (Proverbs 12:10). And the prophet Isaiah speaks of harmony between humanity and animals as a hallmark of God's kingdom: "The baby shall play by the cobra's den, and the child lay his hand on the adder's lair" (Isaiah 11:8).⁣
 ⁣
We don't recommend letting your kids play with poisonous snakes. But peace within the created order is part of God's plan. And having a healthy relationship with a pet cat or dog is one way to begin participating in it. #ScripturalConnections

Proof matters to us humans. In fact, the state of Proof matters to us humans. In fact, the state of Missouri is even nicknamed the "Show Me State." The idea is simple enough: if I'm going to believe you, you need to show me some evidence first.⁣
 ⁣
God knows we humans are like this. We need proof, which is why today, Easter Sunday, he "shows us" the greatest proof of all: Jesus's resurrection from the dead.⁣
 ⁣
The resurrection is proof that on Good Friday, Jesus really did conquer death via the cross. But Easter is also about proving something even more fundamental: that God is trustworthy. When he says he will do something, he will do it -- "just as he said." This is true not only regarding the great events of Christ's ministry on earth, but also the promises of salvation and love that God makes to us today. ⁣
 ⁣
Holy Assumption family: let's take a moment this Easter Sunday to thank God for the great "proof" of the Resurrection, and to trust more completely in his promises. #SundayScripture
